Is your engine’s oil filter performing to your expectation? Do you even know the performance of your filter? Most people don’t, and if they did, they would be appalled.

Some of the best full-flow engine filters on the market perform at a capture efficiency of 50 percent at a particle size of 10 microns and above. That’s a beta ratio of 2 for those of you keeping score, and these are considered "good" in terms of full-flow engine filtration. In comparison, a beta ratio of 1,000 would be considered "good" in terms of industrial hydraulic filtration. Why is there such a performance difference?
